Why I Moved To Dubai

5 Reasons Dubai Is Amazing

Museum of the future, Dubai

Yes, it’s true! I have moved to Dubai – I know, it’s crazy.

So… what you are probably wondering is… why? Why Dubai? This is a question I have been getting A LOT lately.

But before I get into it… You can watch my moving YouTube Video below!

The truth is; I wasn’t specifically looking to come here, what I was looking for was a change in my life. I had been living in London for 3 years, with a total of 6 years living UK and having lived in Europe my entire life.

I was feeling like it was time for change. I get bored of places relatively fast and I am continuously seeking new experiences – so for me, living in the same place for such a long period of time, felt very unnatural.

For quite some time I had been planning to quit my job and go travelling around Asia, or to work remotely while getting to know a different side of the world. However, I was also hesitant to give up on my professional career at such a young age, when I had been succeeding at such.

So instead, I started to look at new countries I could move to that would satisfy my appetite for change, while allowing me to continue flourishing professionally – This was, in fact, my biggest new year resolution for 2019.

During this search I, of course, considered many European countries; but it was always those further away that seemed to catch my attention. I was (and still am) working at a global company that has offices all around the world. So, for me, an internal transfer to one of these locations was the perfect solution. Later, I learned that the Dubai office was growing very fast and that they were doing very exciting things (work-wise) that got me very intrigued. This led me to doing some more research about the UAE where I found a lot things that I really liked about the country. However, this idea ended there and I never thought about pursuing a move to Dubai again.

This is until Nas found a very good job opportunity In Dubai and we started to seriously consider moving here. Long story short – We quickly got very excited about the idea of moving to Dubai and decided to go for it.

I requested a transfer at work, interviewed for a relevant role and suddenly found myself packing all my belongings to move half way across the world.

But don’t get me wrong – It wasn’t all fun and games. It is, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I have ever done. But I am happy that I did it.

Because for me, moving to Dubai means:
- New places to explore
- New people to meet
- New cultures to learn
- New foods to try
- New adventures to experience

And when it comes to my work, it means learning about new ways of working. It means learning to navigate a completely new environment and expanding the horizons of my expertise and my knowledge. Working with people from new sides of the world and learning all that they have to teach me.

In addition, before deciding to move here, I did my research. These are the 5 things that captivated me about Dubai and why I decided to move to this city:

1. It is summer all year round. Temperatures a high enough all year to go to the beach and dip in the pool – Although I must say that in summer it can get too hot to even go outside!

2. I could live by the beach! This has been my dream since I was a kid!

3. It is a tax-free country. What your employer pays you, goes directly to your pocket.

4. The UAE has the second largest economy in the Middle East and the most diverse. It has had a consistent growth since the 1990s.

5. Dubai is a highly multi-cultural city with more than 80% residents being expats.

Have I convinced you yet to more here?
