Move Abroad Smoothly With Matutto
The beautiful region of Algarve, characterised by its white sandy beaches laying underneath an amusing range of cliffs; is located in the south of Portugal. Algarve as a whole is pretty large, so if you are travelling to this amazing seaside destination we recommend that you rent a car in order to make the most of it.
We recently visited Algarve for 5 days and stayed in the Portimão area, but took the car every day to visit different areas of the region. Like I said, Algarve is pretty big so there is A LOT of things that we didn’t get to do (perfect excuse to return); but the good thing about Algarve is that, no matter where you are staying, you’ll be able to explore beautiful places and access most of the best things to do in this coast.
Before we get into the list of all the best things to do, make sure to check our video about Algarve!
Here is a list of the 5 best things to do in Algarve, which can be achieved in any area of the region:
The most famous thing about Algarve is the stunning cliffs that overlook both long white-sand and hidden coved beaches. If you’re going to Algarve, you must spend some time exploring the beaches in your area. Make sure to check out both the views from above and the sea level!
Our favourite beach: Praia da Marinha
There are lots of agencies that sell cave tours for you to visit these amusing natural spots, although they are a bit pricey (around 40€ per person). You can also rent a kayak to explore the caves freely.
Our favourite cave: Benagil Cave
I was shocked by how bright and colourful the sunset was in Algarve – One of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen! It is something that you can certainly not miss. While you probably can watch this from any high terrace, I recommend heading down to a beach to contemplate the sunset at its prime.
Our favourite sunset spot: Praia da Rocha
In the whole coast of Algarve not only there are beautiful beaches to visit but also lots of cliffs that offer breath-taking views. If you have time, go for a ride alongside the coast and try finding some of these incredible view points (with the help of google maps). When we were there, all I had to do was click on the photography icon on Google Maps to find a new beautiful location!
Our favourite cliff view point: Ponta da Piedade
Since we were going to Algarve for a good amount of time, we decide to have fun and spend a day at an Aquapark celebrating Nas birthday. There are lots of aquaparks around Algarve for both adult and kids and it is a great group activity!
Our favourite Aquapark: Slide & Splash

I didn’t realize how pretty the Portugal coastline was. I’ll be there next March so I’m going to make the effort to try and visit this part of the country as well. I imagine the coastal highways would make an excellent road trip!

You have done wonderful things in Algarve, Portugal. Chasing sunsets and wonderful views from cliffs is my first thing to do here. Visiting wild beaches is also a beautiful thing to do here.
