If you’ve ever been to Spain you know that the food in this country is fantastic. If you’ve never been, you’ve heard it. And Madrid is no exception.

My friends from home helped me put together a list with some of the best restaurants, bars and rooftops you should try if you are visiting Madrid for many different reasons. So you are hearing it from the locals! No touristic traps, just pure Spanish flavour.

¡Que Aproveche! (Means enjoy [your food] in Spanish)

Restaurants

El Tigre – Chueca – Generic Spanish Food

Pez Tortilla – La Latina – The best tortillas in town! (and many types available)

Ochenta Grados – Malasaña – Experimental Cousine

Pim Pam – Metro San Bernardo – Modern Spanish Food

El apartamento del número 5 – Noviciado – Tapas

La Tita Rivera – Chueca – Varied Mediterranean cousine

Travel Tip: Many local restaurants in Madrid offer daily lunch Menus for very good prices. If you want to eat well and for good price, try searching for local restaurants outside of the main streets and ask for their Menú del dia!

Bars

Sala Equis – La Latina – A former porn cinema converted into a bar and cultural space!

Gorila – Malasaña – A creative bar with a large range of original drinks

Madklyn – Malasaña – Funky bar perfect for live music!

Areia – Hortaleza – A fun chill out bar with a beachy vibe

Taberna Angel Sierra – Chueca – Gay-friendly bar with a traditional décor atmosphere

Travel Tip: Best areas to go out for a drink and where you can find the coolest bars are Malasaña, Lavapiés and La Latina. In Calle Argumosa (Lavapiés) for example, you’ll find lots of these bars.

Rooftops

Hotel Santo Domingo – Gran Vía – Prime location in the centre for a beautiful sunset

Hostel Generator – San Bernardo – Super cool rooftop bar in this hostel!

The Hat – Plaza Mayor – Secret lovely rooftop bar!

Círculo de Bellas Artes – Head to 7th floor for a 360 view of Madrid!

Corte Inglés – Callao – Hidden rooftop bar in the top floor of shopping mall

The Penthouse – Plaza de Santa Ana – Best rooftop bar but pretty pricey!

Thanks for reading! Let me know if you’ve been dinning in Madrid, what are your favourite restaurants?
