Why Menorca, In Spain, Is My Favourite Place On Earth

And why it should be in your travel bucket list!

Leaving aside the fact that I have spent every single summer since I was born in this island, Menorca is truly amazing. I don’t know anyone who has visited and hasn’t fallen in love with it. There’s a reason why regular visitors refer to this place as paradise.

Here are a few of my favourite things about Menorca, which make the Island such a paradisiac European destination:

1. The clear blue waters

I know there are also other places in Europe where you can find beautiful clear sea, like Italy, France, Cyprus – to name a few. However, I’ve never seen anything like Menorca. The island feels like you are in the Caribbean Sea. I believe this has something to do with its tropical nature and carefully protected environment, which brings me to my next point.

2. Its nature and protected beaches

Menorca has long been protected by many environmental associations like Green Peace. Increasingly, they are prohibiting construction, access by car, phishing and other damaging activities in more natural areas and beaches, which has helped preserved the island and its nature so well. You are still allowed to visit the beautiful locations, just being respectful to the environment as it is all now protected by the law. As hard as it sounds, I love that the island is being taken care of. I hope that people can enjoy this amazing place for many more decades. And again, I believe it is one the main reasons why swimming in the clear waters of Menorca feels is so unique.

3. The calmness of the island

In addition, Menorca does not comply with you average Spanish summer destination. The entire island transmits calmness and truly enables for a place of relaxation. While there are many touristic beach destinations in Spain that tend to get trashed during the summer, and characterise themselves for it’s party and busyness, Menorca offers the complete opposite. No matter how busy the island is, you’ll always manage to find a place where to escape the crowd. Though I would recommend not to visit in August as it does get pretty full of tourists!

4. Its unique locations

Menorca is filled with unique places that make the Island one like you’ve never seen before. That goes from natural swimming pools, hidden ‘calas’ and breath-taking views and sunset spots. Some of my favourites are:

  • Binibeca and es caló blanc natural swimmingpools: Mother nature has formed here  some incredibly beautiful natural sea swimming pools sorrounded by rocks. Here, the amount of fishes and sea nature you can see is amazing. A truly unique snorkelling experience!
  • Cova de’n Xoroi: A gem in Menorca! It’s a club in a cave. Yes, in a cave!
  • Cavalleria and Pregonda: The fist one, being one of the most protected beaches in Menorca offering a surfing coast worth the view. The second one, being the Strella Damn ad famous location with an instagramable Rock jump!

On top of all of this, the food is amazing, the people are friendly, the weather is great and things are affordable!

So, if you’ve never been to Menorca – What are you waiting for?
