1-DAY TRIP TO CHAMONIX, FRANCE: ITINERARY

Chamonix is best known as a winter destination for it’s perfect access to the ski site in the Alps. However, it also makes a perfect summer trip to the French mountains if you like adventure! Plus, you’ll most likely still catch some snow when you reach the top.

I would recommend a weekend visit to the town to be able to enjoy properly what is has to offer and join an excursion if you fancy. However, if you have limited time, it is also possible to see Chamonix in just 1 day. Here is how we did it:

Morning: Aiguille du Midi (Chamonix-Mont Blanc Cable Car and sightseeing)

Depending on where you are coming from, you’ll have more or less time to spend at the top of Mont Blanc. I recommend planning to at least have 2 hours here. Also, make sure to allow time to queue for the tickets as this tends to be pretty busy during peak season.

When you are going up the mountain in the cable car, you’ll notice that there are two stops to get off and explore. Most people, just go up to the top. However, if time allows you, I would recommend to also get off at the middle stop as it also has some unique views. There is a café right at the edge of the mountain where the feeling of looking down is literally breath-taking.

Lunch: Grab a quick lunch in one of the cafes in front of Aiguille du Midi Cable Car to power you through the rest of the day

Afternoon: Montenvers sight and Mer de Glace Iceberg

Head to Montenvers train station to catch the train that takes you to see the famous iceberg. This attraction requires going up and down 500 steps. So, it will depend on how fast you are that you’ll have time or not for a last activity on the day.

Lastly, when you are back in Chamonix, take some time to explore the town centre before you head back. This ski town is beautiful to walk around, with amazing views of the surrounding Alps and very European Ski buildings.
